Bikes for Humanity PDX Offers Easy Way to Keep the Wheels Spinning!

Portland-Vancouver has long enjoyed a reputation as one of most bicycle friendly metropolitan areas in the country, and even the world. An overall appreciation for outdoor activities, a strong concern for reducing carbon emissions, hundreds of miles of bike trails and dedicated street lanes, and thousands of regular bike commuters certainly contribute to that ethos. So too does the dedication of the cycling community towards providing affordable access to bikes for underprivileged children, educating young riders on how to ride safely, and teaching them the basics of maintaining a bike.

One organization that does terrific work in these areas is Bikes for Humanity PDX. B4HPDX began life in 2005 as a project of Community Exchange Bike School/Exchange Cycle Tours. For several years, they operated out of donated space at their founder’s house. In May 2014, they expanded and moved the bike school and shop into the commercial space at 3354 SE Powell Blvd in Portland.  This allowed for expanded programming and open hours 7 days a week. In Nov. 2014, they opened their first off-site bike co-op, Chain Reaction, a partnership with Central City Concern in downtown Portland.

B4HPDX is always looking for volunteers of all ages to donate time and talent, but there is also a need for folks to contribute financial support. Fortunately, if you already shop at Fred Meyer or Amazon, or think you might in the future, there’s a simple and pretty painless way that you can now help them raise funds without breaking your routine (or your bank)!

By signing up for the Fred Meyer Community Rewards program, your regular shopping will support Bikes for Humanity at no additional cost to you. The best part is you will still earn all your regular rewards and fuel rewards points, without paying any more for your groceries! Community Rewards donations made by Fred Meyer are based on customer spending. This means that the more people Bikes for Humanity PDX has asking Fred Meyer to support them, the more money they will receive as donations! Please go to this website to link your family’s Rewards card with Bikes for Humanity PDX: https://www.fredmeyer.com/topic/community-rewards-4

Bikes for Humanity PDX is also a part of the Amazon Smile program. When you choose them as your preferred organization through Amazon Smile, a portion of each purchase made through smile.amazon.com will be donated to Bikes for Humanity PDX.  You can sign up to support Bikes for Humanity PDX through Amazon Smile at: https://smile.amazon.com

Of course, if you’d like to offer your direct support to Bikes for Humanity PDX, you can donate through their website: http://b4hpdx.org/donate/

Won’t you consider helping Bikes for Humanity PDX to fulfill this important mission of educating our community, and ensuring access to affordable and safe transportation for everyone? Thanks!
